In 2022 I began hosting live writing sessions on Instagram called ‘Write Squad’. It didn’t take long for these sessions to take off with a great bunch of writers joining in regularly, committed to getting words on the page and connecting with other writers.

In late 2023, I founded the Write Squad Community as an extension of the Instagram sessions. The Write Squad Community is a free, private community, hosted on Facebook. We hold regular zoom writing sessions and discussions, chat about writing and publishing, as well as having opportunities to chat with published authors and industry professionals.

The Write Squad Community is a safe, inclusive space for writers to come together to share, learn, and grow. And have loads of fun in the process. A place to chat about the writing and creative process, pitching, publishing, and all ups and downs that come with being a writer. Think of us as your emotional support team and the best cheer squad you could ever have!

So who am I? And why am I so passionate about Write Squad?

I’m Jodi author of three published novel (forth coming 2026), a novella, and an anothology. I am host of the Ask the Author podcast, a certified mindset coach and founder of the Write Squad Community. I’m passionate about writing, creativity, and having the space to prioritise a creative life, which I write about on my Nest Creativity Substack.

But the Write Squad Community isn’t just mine, it’s everyone’s. A true community where everyone pitches in and has each other’s back. We are all at different stages of our publishing journey from new writers through to published authors and we all have different skillsets to share.

What started as a space to connect online has grown and extended into the real world. Write Squad is where writers become friends. But don’t take it from me. Here’s what some of our members have to say.

  • No. Membership to the WSC is free. You can also leave the group no questions asked if you don’t feel it’s the right fit for you.

  • It’s always hard finding a time that suits everyone so we try and schedule our writing sessions over various time slots. There is usually a Monday night zoom (AEST), and a midweek, middle of the day zoom. There are also regular live writing sessions held on Instagram at 10am Thursdays (AEST).

  • Not at all. One of the main benefits of the WSC is that we are all at different stages of our careers. Some are seeking publication, some writing as a hobby, others are published both traditionally and/or self-published. And we write across various genres. Everyone is welcome at the WSC and we pride ourselves on being welcoming and inclusive.

  • We are an online community based in Australia. That being the case most of our zooms and writing sessions, and chatter in the group will be based around the Australian time-zone. However, we do have a member in the US, who joins us when she can and of course you can post and share in the Facebook group whenever suits and people will respond. So, it doesn’t matter where you are based.

  • Unfortunately yes. I have tried running the group on Substack but it didn’t have the features we needed. I get it. I don’t love social media either, but until there is a better option right now our group is based on Facebook so you do need to be on Facebook to join. We also hold weekly live writing sessions on Instagram but these are purely optional.

  • The great thing about the WSC is that everything is optional (apart from being on Facebook as that’s where the group is hosted, sorry!) But everything else is optional. You’re not required to attend a certain number of zooms or writing sessions, or take part in any challenges or anything else we might be hosting. You can choose how much you want to be involved and what suits your lifestyle. We know, life is busy, and sometimes writing gets pushed down the priority list. All WSC members are supportive and understanding when people have to dip in and out. The good thing is, we’re always there when you’re ready.
