Awards & Competitions
Thrilled that another of my 8-word stories was selected to be broadcast around Brisbane. Again, thanks to the Queensland Writers’ Centre.
November 2017 saw my short story ‘The Window’ long-listed in the 2017 Birdcatcher Books Short Story Competition. Although I didn’t make it to the short-list, my story will still be included in their anthology.
In October 2017 I entered an #8WordStory competition held through the Queensland Writers’ Centre. I was thrilled that my 8-word-story was selected by judge (and author) Nick Earls, to be showcased on billboards around Brisbane for the week of October 30th.
In March 2017, I was awarded an Honorable Mention in the first round of the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge. This challenge involved having to write a short story in 8 days, in a randomly generated genre, setting and character assigned by the team.
I was interviewed and featured in my local newspaper Friday 3rd of November 2017.
In November, I was invited to be interviewed by the lovely and talented Kirsty Dummin for her blog series, ‘The Writer’s Room’. I spoke about my writing process, where I draw my inspiration, and much more.
“My writing is very much focused on the character’s emotions and journey. A writer must be attuned to everything around them, as story ideas are everywhere.”
In June, I was featured on Louise Allen’s ‘Writers in the Attic’ series, where I wrote about how I found my place in the world of writing.
“My blog re-introduced me to writing. It allowed my thoughts to percolate on the screen in front of me. Whether I pushed publish or not, my blog gave me permission to write what was in my head no matter how weird or wonderful.”
Interview on author Natasha Lester’s blog as a part of her “Hopefully-soon-to-be-published writers” series. I talk about my work in progress, what it’s like being an emerging writer, and I even share a snippet of my writing!
